Rachel De Basso elected Chair of Jönköping region
Peter Olofsson became Chair of Västerbotten while Angelica Katsanidou took the helm in Kalmar.
On Thursday 1 April, Sweden completed a round of Regional Board elections that installed new chairs in all of its counties. The contests spanned the country from Värmland in the west to Jönköping in the south, delivering fresh leadership across the Board
In the north, Peter Olofsson was elected Chair of Västerbotten, while My Alnebratt secured the Västra Götaland post. Eva Lindberg won the Gävleborg Chair and Anders Öberg took the top seat in Norrbotten. Each of these leaders replaces the previous slate of candidates listed in the election outcomes. Their appointments round out the leadership for Sweden's northern and central counties.
Angelica Katsanidou became Chair of region Kalmar, joining Jenny Steen who was chosen to lead Örebro. These four chairs replace the former contenders named in their respective races. Their terms begin simultaneously with the other Regional appointments.
Åsa Johansson was elected Chair of Värmland, while Lars Markus Hildingsson won the Blekinge seat. Mikaela Waltersson secured the Halland Chair and Rachel De Basso was chosen for Jönköping. All twelve chairs now hold the authority to guide their Regional boards.
The coordinated timing of the elections means every Swedish region entered the new term on the same day. The full roster of chairs now stands confirmed as of Thursday.
Analysis
The simultaneous appointment of chairs across all Swedish regions creates a uniform starting point for Regional policy cycles.
