On Wednesday, 30 June 2026, Taiwan's local elections produced New mayors in four major jurisdictions. Chang San-cheng was elected Mayor of Taoyuan, defeating his rivals. Ann Kao secured the mayoralty of Hsinchu City. Lee Shu-chuan won in New Taipei and Wang Mei-hui prevailed in Chiayi City.

In Taoyuan, Chang San-cheng triumphed over Huang Shih-chieh and Perng Shaw-jiin.

Ann Kao defeated Ho Chih-yung and Chuang Ching-cheng to become Hsinchu City's Mayor Her campaign emphasized technology sector growth. Election authorities certified the outcome on Wednesday.

Lee Shu-chuan prevailed against Su Chiao-hui and Huang Kuo-Chang in New Taipei. The win gave the City a New administrative direction.

Wang Mei-hui emerged victorious over Chang Chi-kai, Chen Chia-ping and Weng Shou-liang in Chiayi City. Her election concluded the slate of mayoral contests for the day. The municipal government prepared to transition power following the certification.

Analysis

Each winner now controls a jurisdiction with distinct economic and demographic profiles, giving them leverage in regional policy discussions.

Chang San-cheng's victory in Taoyuan could affect transportation and industrial planning, given the City's role as a logistics hub. Ann Kao's ascent in Hsinchu City may steer the City's renowned technology sector toward New initiatives, while Lee Shu-chuan's win in New Taipei positions him to manage one of the island's most populous areas. Wang Mei-hui's election in Chiayi City brings a New voice to southern regional concerns, especially in agriculture and tourism.

Uncertainty remains about how these leaders will coordinate with the central administration and with each other on cross-City projects. Their policy agendas will be tested in upcoming legislative sessions, and the extent to which they can deliver on campaign promises will shape voter sentiment ahead of future elections.
